Our 4th Of July

Our 4th of July was really great! We had breakfast with some friends that morning and played a couple games of Dominion. A fun game, but it takes a couple tries to really get the hang of it. Then we went home to gather a bunch of stuff to take with us to Capitol Hill. They had a concert that started at 8 so we figured we should get there at 4. We took the metro in with our friends the Madsen's and then walked up to the Capitol building and it was HOT! Thankfully once we found a spot to sit the sky was overcast for most of the rest of the evening. We played games and snacked and it even sprinkled a little.

Concert guests included Josh Groban, Steve Martin, Little Richard, Matthew Morrison (most recently from Glee) and others.

Steve Martin on his banjo.

Then there were some pretty awesome fireworks by the Washington Monument! We wanted to stay and wait out the crowd rushing home but the guards were sweeping the lawn so we had to leave. When we got to the Metro station it was packed!!!! The line wasn't even moving. We pulled out our blankets and parked ourselves on some grass and waited until the crowd disappeared and ate some ice cream bars. We arrived at home around 11:30, not bad! It was a great time.

More belly pictures

So we're having a girl! I've had a couple requests for pictures so here we go. This is me at 20 weeks along. I think I'm also filling out in the face as well as other places.

Don't be deceived by the shadow on this one.

That's right, I still wore the skirt to church that day. I wasn't able to zip up about an inch and a half. I think this was taken at 18 weeks along. My wardrobe has become very thin.

The hazards of living in Alexandria

Take a good look at my bike. Torn seat, rusty, very rusty and pretty old. But where is my back tire? By the way it's not even chained up because when I lock it I can't get the key out. They could have taken the whole thing.

I guess it could have been worse.

Belly Bump

Okay I might have stuck it out a little bit further than I needed too. Anyway it feels weird to have an expanding belly and a little more fat on the sides, but I keep telling myself it's for a good cause!

Last Saturday Joseph and I went for a little walk through a park and took a picnic lunch. That funny look on my face is because I was trying to smile without showing the food in my mouth. And the glasses? Ugh. My left eye has been getting really irritated and red when I wear my contacts. I'm going to see the eye doctor this week.

Memorial Day Parade

I love parades!! Although it was really long and very hot we stayed through to the end. It was great to honor our military.

I was really feeling bad for everyone in the parade since it was SO hot! And these revolutionary soldiers even had wigs on!

Recognize this guy?

This is Joe Mantegna from a TV series we watch sometimes called 'Criminal Minds'.

Even George Washington and his wife Martha were there!

I Wasn't Even Nervous

I was very ready to cut all this off. I have about 12 inches waiting to be donated to locks of love.

Ta da!

Last weekend Joseph and I finally bought curtains! It makes the room so much more homey and comfortable. There's my long hair again. Now we need curtains and other decorations in our living room. It needs the most help since it gets really dark in there even when the sun is shining brightly outside. We also need a big rug.

Time for a New Post

Yesterday was probably my very first day of pregnancy related emotions, that is other than crying during the movie UP. You'd think that since our church meetings start at 3 it would be impossible to be late. Well somehow some of us can still manage. Joseph and I were eating some form of an informal lunch when he looked at the time on the computer screen and asked
"Does Sacrament meeting start at 3 or 3:30?"
"3, why?"
"Uh oh"
"Oh my gosh!"

It was 2:48 and it takes at least 10 minutes to get there. You'd also think that we'd get up in the morning and get ready completely. I had a skirt on but no make-up and I still had to choose a shirt! The first one I put on you could tell I was getting a little pudgy round the middle, so I traded it for one that made me look slightly less so. Joseph was still in basketball shorts and a T-shirt.

You'd also think that since I was supposed to lead the music in Sacrament meeting I'd make extra sure to be on time! When I got there they were already singing the opening hymn. I peeked in and saw our Relief Society Pres leading the music. I waited for Joseph, who was parking the car, in the hall and for his opinion. Should I go in and take over?

He said she had it covered. So we sat in the overflow in the gym and the tears started, not something I would usually cry about. Then I found out that she was also the last speaker on the program, right between 2 songs! Ha ha I was in no shape to be up in front of people so I thanked her after the program. She told me that the same thing happened to her last weekend. She was asked to play the organ for a meeting and was 15 minutes late.

Next Sunday we'll be sure to be on time.
